  • International Overdose Awareness Day

    August 31, 2025

August is Overdose Awareness Monthβ€”a time to honor lives lost, raise awareness about the dangers of drug overdose, and fight the stigma surrounding substance-related deaths. This message hits close to home: in 2021, Greene County ranked #1 in overdose fatalities among 57 upstate NY counties, with Columbia County at #22.

Thanks to harm reduction efforts and expanded access to resources, overdose deaths have declined since thenβ€”but the work is far from over. We must continue to act, educate, and support our communities to prevent further loss and build a healthier future.

  • May is Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, spotlighting the link between mental health and Substance Use Disorder (SUD). Nearly 1 in 4 adults with a mental illness also struggles with SUDβ€”a condition known as a co-occurring disorder. Raising awareness helps break stigma and encourages integrated, compassionate care for those facing both challenges.

  • 100 Deadliest Days of Summer

The 100 Deadliest Days of Summer refers to the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day, when traffic-related fatalitiesβ€”especially among teensβ€”spike across the U.S. Increased travel, impaired driving, and distracted behaviors contribute to the rise in crashes during this time. Parents, caregivers, and communities play a vital role in promoting safe driving habits and helping prevent these tragedies. Staying alert, sober, and focused behind the wheel can save lives.
